A science geek with a business background and a former hip-hop producer with years of brewing experience are looking to build community around a passion for beer and spirits.

Jesse Ferguson and Laura Dierks, the duo behind Interboro Spirits & Ales (he’s the brewer, she’s the science geek), have launched a Kickstarter to support research and development for the brewery and distillery they plan to open in East Williamsburg, at 942 Grand Street, in 2016.

As they build out their new facility, Ferguson and Dierks plan to test small-scale runs of new beer and spirits varieties, so locals can “explore flavors together.”

In supporting Interboro, Kickstarter backers will receive rewards including growlers of beer, tasting glasses, Interboro T-shirts, access to the new brewery and distillery before it opens and a private tasting party.

With just over two weeks to go, the campaign has met just over half its $11,500 goal.

Interboro will join a growing number of Brooklyn-based beer and spirits purveyors, including Breuckelen Distilling in Park Slope, Industry City Distilling in Sunset Park, Brooklyn Brewery in Williamsburg (of course), among many others.
