A big step for a bigger development: SLCE Architects will design City Point’s third and final tower — and the tower will be Brooklyn’s third tallest.

The structure at 138 Willoughby Street will have a total of 57 stories and rise to 692 feet, preliminary filings submitted to the Department of Buildings Tuesday revealed.

When Extell Development announced in June it will develop the project, the building seemed likely to be Brooklyn’s tallest. That place of honor has since been usurped by the 1,000-foot-tall 340 Flatbush and 700-foot-tall 205 Montague Street, as we reported.

Other details revealed by the filings: The new building will comprise both residential and commercial space, including a four-story retail podium measuring 65,000 square feet.

Once completed, the development will likely bring significantly more foot traffic to the already populous area due to both its many future residents as well as its big name food hall. Even with the many ongoing developments in Downtown Brooklyn, City Point stands out as one of the of the highest profile, both literally and in the media.

The other two towers in the complex are further along in construction and tenant selection. The first tower at City Point ended its affordable housing applications back in September, and has announced a substantial list of commercial tenants for its Dekalb Market Hall, including Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, Katz’s Delicatessen, and Century21.

An international firm, SLCE’s extensive portfolio includes hotels, condominiums, cinemas, and libraries, mostly in Manhattan. Brooklyn projects include Brooklyn Law School’s 239-unit Feil Hall Dormitory.

Extell, a close second to Ratner in the bid for Atlantic Yards development, also boosts a diverse portfolio bridging residential, commercial, and mixed-use — but exclusively in Manhattan.
