The Brooklyn Museum is opening three Coney Island–centric exhibits this month, including a series of photographs and site-specific installations honoring the People’s Playground.

The three exhibits, Stephen Powers: Coney Island Is Still Dreamland (To a Seagull), Coney Island: Visions of an American Dreamland, 1861-2008, and Forever Coney: Photographs from the Brooklyn Museum Collection, will go on view November 20.

Documenting the development of Brooklyn’s kaleidoscope microcosm, the exhibits will display a slew of artists captured moments from the 1800s to the 21st century.

One of these artists is Harvey Zipkin, a Brooklyn native who has been photographing since the mid 1960s and describes his work as having “no intricate symbolism, no fussy lighting, no unnecessary bells and whistles. Rather, I try and depict real, raw humanity…the simple beauty found in ordinary life.”

From tintype photographs to carousel horses, the Brooklyn Museum’s ode to Coney Island will certainly bring a heaping of southern Brooklyn memories to its Fort Greene facilities.
