Katz City Point

Don’t fuggedaboutit — Katz’s Delicatessen really is coming to Brooklyn.

Arguably New York’s most iconic deli, the 127-year-old restaurant is expanding from its Lower East Side stronghold to open an outpost at City Point’s DeKalb Market Hall, the company confirmed this week. (In April, the deli said it was considering it.)

The 60,000-square-foot subterranean eatery below City Point at 1 Dekalb Avenue in Downtown Brooklyn has now signed up close to half of its 57 vendors. Along with grocer Trader Joe’s, Katz’s could be considered an anchor tenant who will make the spot a destination for shoppers and other retailers.

In addition to Katz’s and Trader Joe’s, other tenants will include doughnut maker Cuzin’s Duzin, Steve’s Ice Cream, Pain d’Avignon, Fletcher’s Brooklyn Barbecue, Eight Turn Crepe, Jackson Heights’ famed Arepa Lady, No. 6 Coffee, Forcella Pizza, and Pierogi Bar. (Cuzin’s Duzin was a vendor back when this space was the open air DeKalb Market Hall.)

In addition to the array of local eateries and the grocery store, the below-ground food hub will also include two full restaurants. The 30,000-square-foot food hall is part of the first phase of the massive retail and residential City Point project, now under construction.

The food hall is slated to open in 2016. The entire project, which will include more than 1,000 apartments, Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, Century21, and CityTarget, will be complete in 2020.
