Construction plods along for the first three affordable residential buildings at Park Tower Group’s Greenpoint Landing — the mega-development slated to add thousands of new apartments to Greenpoint.

Designed by Handel Architects, the affordable buildings are part of a ten-building master plan, also from Handel, that will bring 5,500 new residential units to this booming neighborhood. For the first three affordable buildings currently under construction, Park Tower Group has partnered with L+M Development, co-developers of the townhouses at Navy Green.

First to begin construction, 21 Commercial Street has almost wrapped up installation of the brick exterior wall. All that remains is the windows and the black metal panel cladding at the southeast corner and ground floor retail. The six story structure will eventually offer 93 affordable units when completed, part of the 1,400 affordable units promised for the entire development.

Work on 5 Blue Slip, the six story affordable building that broke ground in late June, has not progressed at the same pace as the first two. The site still appears mainly as it did in the summer, with no sign of the 103 affordable units rising above the construction fence yet.

Coming slightly behind 21 Commercial Street, 33 Eagle Street at the corner of Eagle and West Streets has topped out and installation of its brick facade has just begun. The seven story building will include an additional 98 affordable units.
