Bed Stuy Building Collapse

A collapsed wall between 95 and 97 Quincy Street (the white building and red building above) has left two Bed Stuy homes slated for demolition and another pair potentially requiring the wrecking ball.

Two of the buildings were occupied and have since been forced to evacuate, with one person suffering minor injuries from the collapse, according to Gothamist.

The likely cause of the collapsed wall was construction at 95 Quincy, where the owners — a group of investors based in Long Island — were adding an extra floor to the two-and-a-half-story residential property as they converted it into a multi-family building.

Since July, 95 Quincy Street has been raking in still unpaid fines and violations for work safety conditions and illegal excavation, including open holes and missing guardrails, according to the Buildings Department.

Brooklyn building collapses have been part of a disturbing trend recently, many of them in under-construction developments. Brownstoner counts at least four wall or facade collapses at Brooklyn construction sites since July.
