Gas Leak Scare Dumbo

The fire department closed sections of Front Street and Jay Street earlier this afternoon, blocking traffic with fire trucks and caution tape. The reason? A suspicious crack in the sidewalk.

“It’s so they can make sure there isn’t a gas leak,” a construction worker on the scene told Brownstoner, mere seconds before two neon-vested National Grid workers arrived on the scene.

It was not clear whether the crack was related to the construction behind it at 181 Front Street, where a 105-unit luxury rental building is under way.

The fire department was called at least nine times in the past year to investigate a possible gas leak in front of the nearby 51 Jay street, according to the Brooklyn Eagle.
