Lakeside at Prospect Park Bike and Boat Rentals Start This Weekend

    by

Looking for some fun outdoor activities for the Memorial Day weekend staycation? Look no further than the Samuel J. and Ethel LeFrak Center at Lakeside in Prospect Park. This weekend kicks off the season of boat and bike rentals — along with a host of other activities going down this weekend at Lakeside.

After several years, boat rentals are back at Prospect Park Lake, and you’ll want to take advantage of this unique Brooklyn experience. With a pedal boat or kayak, you can peacefully paddle among the diverse wildlife while your friends on shore watch in envy. You can rent pedal boats by the hour ($20/hr for singles and $30/hr for doubles), and kayaks by the hour, half day, or day ($15/$30/$40 for single kayaks, $25/$35/$45 for doubles).

If you don’t have your own bike, or don’t feel like lugging yours to the park, at Lakeside you can rent anything from a traditional 1-person hybrid bicycle to a 6-person, 4-wheel surrey. In between there are tandem bikes, kids’ bikes, and trailers for the wee ones. All rentals come with a safety helmet. Specialty bikes are available for rent by the hour (prices range from $12 to $30), while traditional bikes, tandems, and trailers are available by the hour, half day, or day ($8–$15 for hourly, $18–$30 for half day, and $25–$45 for full day).

After you’ve explored Prospect Park by land and by sea, there’s still so much to do! If you haven’t had enough of wheels, you’ll be happy to know that roller skating season is already in full swing. If you’re over 21, you’ll want to boogie down to Lola Star’s Dreamland Roller Disco every Friday from 7:30-10 PM until October 6. Meanwhile, for the little ones, the Splash Pad opens on Monday for children under 12 to beat the summer heat.

That’s a lot of activity. To refuel, be sure to check out the year-round dining at Lakeside’s Bluestone Café. In addition to burgers and brats, they have salads, a full coffee menu, plus beer, wine, and other adult beverages.

Whatever your fancy, Lakeside has a great outdoor activity for everyone this summer. We’ll see you there!
