The long-awaited Saraghina Bar opened Wednesday night at 348 Lewis Avenue in Bed Stuy. The spot, an expansion of Saraghina restaurant next door, serves drinks from 6 pm until closing. It will add small plates soon, a worker told us when we stopped by Thursday.

The interior has the same rustic charm as its siblings Saraghina and Saraghina Bakery. There are mismatched chairs, antique lights and, most interesting, a trompe-l’Å“il mural on the side wall.

It appears to be ancient fleur-de-lys wallpaper unearthed during renovations and crumbling away in part to reveal a brick wall. In fact, it’s actually painted, and the fleur de lys design is a stencil.

The storefront, which sometimes had a sidewalk sale of used clothing in front of it, might have at one time been part of the former auto body shop next door, where the restaurant is now. The bar was originally set to open in February. Anyone dropped by yet?

  1. Stopped in last weekend, loved the margarita italiano. The bartender was brooding and unhappy, though, and it is a bit strange that they aren’t serving appetizers or small plates at the bar, seemingly just because of some bureaucratic decision. Otherwise a good experience, excellent ambience.
