A long-empty storefront at 327 Stuyvesant Avenue is being renovated, we saw when we passed by Saturday. The property sits on a well-trafficked corner in Stuyvesant Heights not far from the express stop at Utica.

Many empty retail spaces in the area have found new commercial tenants recently or are being spruced up in the hopes of attracting them. A permit posted on the window says the ground-floor space at No. 325, next door, which is part of the retail unit at No. 327 next door, is being converted into a residential apartment. It also says the two buildings, which are one tax lot, are being separated into two.

The permit, which was originally applied for in 2007, was issued in February.

After several notices of lis pendens, the two buildings sold to an LLC in December for $2,500,000. PropertyShark says the property is one building (measuring 41.5 feet wide) with five or six apartments and one retail space and that the building’s primary address is 327 Stuyvesant Avenue. The cross street is Macon, in the Stuyvesant Heights Historic District.

  1. i’m more interested in the space one block up on halsey, close to stuyvesant. they’ve installed new windows and already have chandelier-like light fixtures going in. no idea what it’s slated to become but at least there’s more progress in that space than this one.
