The bank headed for the corner of Marcy and Fulton in Bed Stuy will be TD Bank, a rendering on the construction fence shows. When we passed by 957 Marcy Avenue Friday, demo of the old Burger King was fairly far along. Click through for lots of photos.
As we’ve said before, we think a taller mixed-use building would be a more efficient use of space here — and it would fit in better with the area — than the standard one-story building surrounded by a parking lot shown on the rendering. But the plan is to replace like with like, so it is not to be.
As for the bank, there are also Chase and Citibank branches nearby. Do you think TD Bank — and the parking — will be a useful addition?

The bank is great, and will be useful. For too long, many neighborhoods in Brooklyn have been without, or lacking in choice of, national banks.

That said, of course they’d build surface parking on Fulton, LOL. Shaking my head here, how in the world does the land owner think this is the most profitable use of the space? Or does current zoning require the parking lot? I know plenty of people in Bed Stuy have cars and use them frequently for business and errands, but this seems unnecessary.
This is great. But I wish these banks could be more spread out, maybe near Franklin Ave C train or further into Bed Stuy, instead of cluster all in one place. There is such void in other part of Bedstuy and Clinton Hill when it comes to banks. Their business maybe diluted also when so many of them are all in one place too. I wonder how these bank executives make decisions on where to open branches. Customers just want banks loser to where they live.
TD in the area will be very useful. They have an amazing customer service and most of their branches open 8am to 8pm, including Saturdays. Great addition to the neighborhood.

Thanks MM for the piece of history. No…..it’d be a crime to torn it down. It’s so cool to have a Greek temple looking structure in the middle of Bed Stuy, love the tall columns. It’d be a perfect movie theater, and we have none in the neighborhood now.
I see, yes, now I remember that the a Restoration corp was founded by JFK in the 50s? I guess in a way, this section of Fulton reflects the revival of Bedstuy as a whole, hence manifestation of bigger retailers such as national banks.
On a side note, I wish what is known as the Slave Theater has it’s legal battles resolved soon and put into uses that could benefit the area, a real movie theater or art / performance space would be nice. As of now it’s a dead space and really dark at night, doesn’t feel good to walk by section of Fulton.
