After months of suspense, then a postponed meeting due to this week’s snowstorm, now Prospect Lefferts Gardens and southern Crown Heights’s Community Board 9 has scheduled three public meetings to hash out its controversial request for a zoning study.

On Wednesday, February 4, the ULURP committee will have its first meeting in about a year to “review and discuss” the rewording of the controversial request, according to a notice on the board’s website. Then a second meeting will take place on Wednesday, February 11, to go over the specific wording of the request and vote on it, prior to presenting it to the full board. (If we read the notice correctly, the actual writing of the request will take place in private somewhere between the two meetings. This could also be controversial, though efficient.) The full board will consider the wording of the request on Tuesday, February 24.

  1. “Why are you here man? I mean that seriously; you seem to dish a lot of hate on people, you’re basically hoping that a lot of people get screwed with their homes and seem to revel hoping they lose their life savings or something.”

Well: When Gentrification was in full swing, everyone was so happy displacing long time residents, Landlords jacking up rents. Where was your “outrage”, Huh?! Now The Mutant Asset Bubble is getting ready to collapse, you wanna show some ‘Butthurt’! I don’t have to hope for nothing, we’re at the beginning at the greatest Deflationary collapse in history! I’m so sorry you was one of the suckers who believed the Hype! Don’e get mad at me, get mad at your self and get some cream for your Butthurt!

    The What
Someday this war is gonna end…

    • I don’t think anybody is ‘happy’ to be displacing someone; I think people are happy to have a home and the sellers are happy their initial RE investment paid well. The people that sold their houses sold them of their own accord, if displacement is an issue it’s an issue for the seller to take up with tenants, not the new buyer. Peoples lives are certainly being altered, it’s sensitive and there isn’t a quick and easy solution to this. Gentrifications fwiw doesn’t rear it’s head too often I think most people just aren’t sure the best way to deal with displacement so they live their lives as best they can.

I’m not ‘outraged’, I’m confused why you keep popping up. I think you might have a mental issue.

The chance of a deflationary collapse is next to nil. In the wake of the 07-08 collapse I think the FRB would be loony to even risk putting the US economy and World economies at risk like that. Connect the dots, there’s a reason one program after another has been rolled out (tarp, talf, maiden lane, mortgage buy back, ZIRP etc.). There has been a reason that short term rates have been kept near zero for almost 7 years. Everyone expects a slowdown, but it’s most likely going to be slower constant growth. And until FRB is certain that is the runway we’re taking off from, the programs aren’t going to stop – after 7 years that should be obvious to even the blind. Will certain assets suffer? Absolutely, but if you think there will be another housing collapse like 07 you might be out of your mind.

As it pertains to me, I like my house, it’s not speculative. I must live somewhere and I’m happy with the spot I’ve chosen.

      Good luck to you though.
