We are simply amazed by the transformation of this diminutive house, which has a sad back story. The new wood window surrounds, the bathroom and the kitchen are especially impressive. The slate fireplace has been stripped and works. A thorough facade renovation included new black iron windows, a new door, and paint removal.

The current owner bought the property unrenovated in 2012 for $920,000 from a flipper after the city took it from an elderly woman for nonpayment of only $10,092 in taxes, according to property records and a reader who saw the house when it was last for sale.

“It wasn’t a total wreck but it needed a lot of work,” she told us. “It had some original detail remaining.” The one-family house has three bedrooms, one full bath and two half baths. It is only 1,400 square feet, according to PropertyShark.

What do you think of the renovation and the new ask of 1,998,000?

  1. I’ve seen the house, I live a block from it. It is beautifully done but TINY. Useable square footage is about equivalent to an average 2 BR apartment. The half backyard is really no more than a patio and will soon be in complete shadow as will the back of the house from an upcoming condo building which is replacing the Jet uniform company behind it. I don’t see the value in it. You can still get a real house with a rental unit nearby for that kind of money.

  2. Maybe the photos are “overselling” it but the quality of the finishes really shines.

Not snark, but what does one do with the kitchen fireplace? They’ve loaded wood nearby but would anyone really ever light a fire there?

Two of the upstairs rooms lack closets and give the overall tidy dimensions, this place poses problems for storage and functionality.

    Beautiful but small and expensive

  3. Great renovation. Can’t fault any of the choices and the work looks top notch.

1400 sq feet sounds small. I don’t think they’re including the below grade basement- which has casement windows and was at one point being used as an in-law suite by the previous owner.

  4. Wait a minute? Are you serious? You can’t find the NYT write-up of this house? Well, it’s here: http://www.nytimes.com/2014/09/28/realestate/on-the-market-in-new-york-city.html?ref=realestate&_r=0

You see, the NYT has this obscure little real estate section, wherein they feature properties on the market in the city at any given moment. You should check it out sometime.

Sorry for the sarcasm, but this is pretty elementary for a reporter on a real estate blog.
