Closing Bell: Caribbean-Themed Target First Saturday Tomorrow

Tomorrow is Target First Saturday at the Brooklyn Museum, and the museum is hosting a series of “Caribbean Community” events that range from a West Indian steel pan orchestra performance to a workshop on traditional Jamaican weaving. The free activities start at 4:30 pm with a performance from the Flatbush-based Crossfire Steel Orchestra. Other performers include a Haitian jazz flutist and the Request Band, which plays a mix of dance hall, funk, reggae and calypso.

Visitors can stop by at 6 to learn dance steps for soca, “a style of music and dance that combines elements of soul with Caribbean calypso.” There will also be a screening of “2×1,” a documentary about Crown Heights shot by West Indian and Hasidic community members on Google Glass.
