After months in the making, Emeline’s Diner plans to open July 18, one of the managers told us. The restaurant at 373 Lewis Avenue in Bed Stuy will serve breakfast and lunch from 7 to 4 pm every day. At a recent private party, the menu included egg sandwiches, biscuits with fried apples, crab cakes, coconut French toast, buttermilk pancakes, and omelettes.

Last week, Crain’s ran a story saying the restaurant had opened July 2, “80 days sooner than expected,” thanks to participation in a city business acceleration program. Above, the restaurant as it looked Thursday morning.

In any case, we are looking forward to having a casual spot for breakfast and lunch in the area. How about you?

Update: When we stopped by July 19, Emeline’s was still not open for business.

  1. Not surprisingly, still no sign of life at Emeline. These guys really don’t seem to know how to open a business, despite all the help the Department of Small Business Services supposedly gave them. Ridiculous. I still want the place to offer great food, etc., but I am not hopeful.

  2. I want to be optimistic, but so far they don’t seem to be putting their best foot forward. How about putting a sign out front mentioning their opening day – let alone putting up flyers or something. They have a website – but it is basically blank, and has been so for months, so I am not sure it matters. They have done little or no outreach to the community to let us know they are coming. Breakfast and lunch are fine, but I agree with the other posters, that in a residential community, dinner is a much better bet. Perhaps they will expand to dinner in the future. They are in prime location, so it will be a shame if the food, service, etc. aren’t any good. Time will tell. I understand the family also owns the building, so at least they don’t have monthly rent to meet. Frankly, I would have preferred an established restaurant owner be there, but I will let the service and the food be the judge. Anyone heard anything about the storefront on Halsey and Lewis (where the medical office was)? I had heard a restaurant was coming there. Any timeframe on the Saraghina bakery?

    • Haven’t heard anything new on the medical office space. And the Peaches folks have been tight-lipped about the Pantry space. But I have heard that the cajun restaurant will NOT be opening in the Celestino space. The Saraghina owner said end of July for the bakery. And Brusnwick has been, for the most part, a pleasant surprise. Am I missing anything?

  3. I would love to know if the early close is just part of their start-up plan. When i initially heard about a “diner” coming to the neighborhood, my first thought was late night food…anyway, I’ll rarely get to enjoy the place because I (like most people) work past 4pm.
