Repairs have started on the India Street pier that collapsed in February, and ferry service to Greenpoint could return by next Friday, according to a spokesperson for the city’s Economic Development Corporation. Work is on track to finish by July 26, when the MTA will suspend G train service between Greenpoint Avenue and Court Square for five weeks to repair damage from Hurricane Sandy.
The gangway to the ferry landing collapsed precipitously into the East River during a February snowstorm. Since then, Greenpoint ferry riders have taken a shuttle to the North 6th Street stop in Williamsburg. The pier’s private owner, RedSky Capital, has built a new landing and gangway off site.
