Five stories of steel frame have gone up where a block-long, seven-story apartment building is being constructed at 490 Myrtle Avenue in Clinton Hill. As reported, Silverstone Property Group plans a development with 232 rentals, 20 percent affordable housing, and ground floor retail. Last year, they demolished the Associated grocery store and neighboring storefronts on the 19,500-square-foot lot between Hall and Ryerson streets. The Associated will return to the new building, and a TD Bank will occupy the rest of the commercial space. Construction is expected to finish next summer.
Next door at 504 Myrtle Avenue, Silverstone will knock down a post office and replace it with an eight-story building. But the post office isn’t expected to return. The developer snagged both properties in December 2012 for a combined $9,500,000, according to public records.
