New Yorkers pay dearly for every square foot of living space they get. Finding ways to stow an ever expanding supply of stuff into a finite space leaves many of us wishing we had secret compartments everywhere.

Fortunately, modern furniture designers are starting to rise to the challenge, finding new ways to maximize the storage potential of every piece of furniture. Wonk in Brooklyn, for example, cleverly includes storage compartments in many of their pieces, including their Mod Quad coffee table (lower right, above). The Halsey Hideaway (upper right, above), even adds hidden side shelves to complement its dresser drawers.

Beds, of course, are the ultimate space hogs. City dwellers are familiar with the necessary evil of stowing various boxes and drawers under their bed frames, along with the dust bunnies and cat toys. One way to combat that clutter is a bed with built-in drawers, like Wonk’s Knickerbocker.

The designers at Wonk decided to take things a step further with another of their bed designs, the Stillwell. For the Stillwell, their goal was to create a sturdy bed with plenty of storage that can be easily assembled, disassembled, and reassembled — all without tools. Anyone who has moved a bed to a new apartment more than once can see the appeal of this design.

Because every piece of furniture at Wonk is made to order, clients can choose colors and finishes for each and every product they order.  In addition, Wonk can customize their designs to fit the clients’ space restrictions and storage needs. (Like this customized Knickerbocker bed.)

Imagine yourself with a place for everything in your apartment. You’re living the dream! Now you just have to remember where everything is.
