Construction fencing is up and there are big piles of dirt along John Street in Dumbo, where Brooklyn Bridge Park is building a new section of waterfront green space and a condo development. Demolition permits have been filed for the one-story garage inside the park at 121 Plymouth Street, a little mural-covered structure under the Manhattan Bridge. BBP is transforming the former DEP building next door into a 1,700-square-foot park facility with restrooms, community meeting space and an environmental education center. This rendering we found on the fence shows what it might look like.

And at 1 John Street, a small piece of the new park has already begun sprouting. Behind the construction fence, a bright green field of clover called John Street Pasture has appeared, temporarily beautifying the lot that will eventually house a 42-unit condo building. The project is “a temporary living earthwork that celebrates green space, agriculture, and the transitional nature of urban land,” according to its website. Artist and farmer Andrea Reynosa designed the installation, which will be plowed aside and incorporated into the new park at the end of the summer.

After construction finishes, the John Street park will feature pedestrian bridges over a tidal salt marsh, a 13,000-square-foot gathering lawn, and a bouldering wall at the Main Street entrance.
