Brownstoner Upstate: Putnam County Classics

The Putnam Cycling Classic is one of the most popular cycling events in the Hudson Valley. This year, it’s taking place on Saturday, May 10, and Brewster will serve as the center for all of the goings-on. If you’re an avid bicyclist and want to get a closer look at the bucolic beauty that is Putnam, the Tour de Putnam, the event’s non-competitive course, will allow the opportunity to do it from the best place possible: From the seat of a bicycle. Competitive types can race in the Putnam Classic if they want, but we prefer the slower, more family friendly pace of the Tour, with routes passing through every municipality in the county. We have to admit, this 1960s contemporary on the river in Garrison made us sigh a little. It’s the bright, clean interior and the river views from the patio that got us. Added bonus: It’s walking distance to the Manitou Metro North station. Just keep in mind that the train schedule there is sporadic, but the Garrison train station is still close by. Garrison is a lovely community in Philipstown with lots of luxury properties, and the real estate prices reflect both its reputation and its proximity to the city.
