Roaring Brook Lake, Putnam Valley

The Putnam Cycling Classic is one of the most popular cycling events in the Hudson Valley. This year, it’s taking place on Saturday, May 10, and Brewster will serve as the center for all of the goings-on. If you’re an avid bicyclist and want to get a closer look at the bucolic beauty that is Putnam, the Tour de Putnam, the event’s non-competitive course, will allow the opportunity to do it from the best place possible: From the seat of a bicycle. Competitive types can race in the Putnam Classic if they want, but we prefer the slower, more family friendly pace of the Tour, with routes passing through every municipality in the county. So let’s go on our own virtual tour of Putnam County this week and enjoy these dreamy properties from the Brownstoner Upstate real estate listings.

314 Lake Shore Road, Putnam Valley: $475,000

Lots of lakes in Putnam Valley, including Roaring Brook Lake (see pic at the top of the post) where this contemporary is situated. We like the retro-’70s vibe of the interior with big picture windows looking out onto view of the lake. Includes a patio and its own boat dock. It’s about an hour and half drive from Brooklyn to this lakeside retreat, but we suspect it will feel like a million miles away. Beds: 3. Baths: 2.5. Square Feet: 1,846. Lot Size: .58 acres. Est. Taxes: $12,982.

34 Hudson River Lane, Garrison: $750,000

We have to admit, this 1960s contemporary on the river in Garrison made us sigh a little. It’s the bright, clean interior and the river views from the patio that got us. Added bonus: It’s walking distance to the Manitou Metro North station. Just keep in mind that the train schedule there is sporadic, but the Garrison train station is still close by. Garrison is a lovely community in Philipstown with lots of luxury properties, and the real estate prices reflect both its reputation and its proximity to the city. Brooklyn is less than 90 minutes away. Listing calls the house energy efficient. Beds: 2. Baths: 2. Square Feet: 1,856. Lot Size: .15 acres. Est. Taxes: $9,168.

14 Prospect Street, Brewster: $379,000

Who knew Victorian Italianate house perfection was hiding in the village of Brewster? Well, we do now. It’s a decent size, well-preserved, and loaded with details, like pressed tin ceilings, bay window, cedar-lined closets, and a finished attic. Even the detached garage looks pretty. Check out the Google Map Streetview to see all of the other great houses on this street. Located approximately 90 minutes from Brooklyn. Beds: 4. Baths: 2. Square Feet: 2,518. Lot Size: .33 acres. Est. Taxes: $9,202.

230 Crane Road, Carmel: $515,000

And last but not least, a farmhouse west of the West Branch Reservoir in the town of Carmel. There’s plenty of elbow room all over the place here, with the house measuring over 2,600 square feet on 3 acres of land. Love the floors, the doors, built-ins, and wooden ceiling beams in the bar. Yes, it has a bar. Tons of lakes and water bodies around Carmel. It’s pretty country, indeed. Too bad about those taxes, huh? Beds: 4. Baths: 4. Square Feet: 2,608. Lot Size: 3 acres. Est. Taxes: $13,782.
