There are lots of Aesthetic Movement details to love here, from the slate mantels (still with their original marble faux painting) to the style of the interior entry door and the window and door moldings. Originally a one-family, the three-story house has been set up as an owner’s duplex over a garden-floor rental.

The mechanicals are all new, the kitchens and baths are updated, and there is also a wooden deck and alarm system.

To our surprise, the renovation seems to have been done by an investor owner. Shalom Equities Ltd purchased the house in for $325,000 in 2012 after a lis pendens. While permits don’t indicate who renovated the interior, presumably it was Shalom Equities; PropertyShark photos show they replaced a mid-century front door with a more appropriate one and painted the impressive iron work black.

As far as we know, the most any house of this size has sold for this far east and north (it’s near the J Gates stop) is just under a million. In July, the house next door at No. 687 closed for $825,000. (It was a House of the Day in May.) Do you think they’ll get their ask of $1,300,000?

  1. I like it, but to me it should be a one family as it was intended for. Where are the kids going to play? Besides, the owner should have complete access to the back yard.

The hall on the top floor is to big of a space and should be modified somehow, bathroom up there needs a window or skylight, something for fresh air. that is a must for me.

The wall in the kitchen needs to be removed as to incorporate the space into the dining room, it looks too cramped with the wall there, maybe an ornate archway or something? the kitchen cabinets are a rip out and replace, as I think they are ugly and do not fit the house.

Other than these minor things, because I am anal, it is a nice house and love the look of it from the outside.
