Mystery Windsor Terrace Build Belongs to Boymelgreen, Will Start Renting in April

The developer behind Windsor Terrace’s huge mystery build, 23 Caton Place, is none other than Sam Boymelgreen, a story in The Real Deal revealed. Now known as The Kestrel, with the address 33 Caton Place, the 126-unit rental development is getting ready to start leasing in April.

A reader emailed us to say scaffolding started coming down on the building last week. The exterior brick work is done, but windows are not yet in. Halstead Property will handle leasing, said The Real Deal.

Boymelgreen also has other Brooklyn projects in the works. He is the son of well-known developer Shaya Boymelgreen, whose companies “fell into bankruptcy.” The elder Boymelgreen is currently involved in litigation, including a case in which he is accused of falsifying Department of Building records to obtain a temporary certificate of occupancy for one of his developments, said the story, which came out in print earlier this month but just appeared online. The younger Boymelgreen’s development company is named Boymelgreen LLC. Current Brooklyn projects include:

*A mixed-use project at a 96,000-square-foot loft in Gowanus at 255 Butler Street, where Boymelgreen LLC has a 49-year ground lease. The site is owned by the Acaad family. It will be a hotel or office.

*A 10-unit condominium at the corner of Washington and Lafayette avenues. (We’re guessing this is 351 Washington Avenue, a roomy 19th century brick building owned by an LLC with FAR that would allow a building twice its size.)

*Boymelgreen is also renovating a house in Clinton Hill for his family.

Part of the reason he started his own firm was to “focus solely on Brooklyn,” according to the story. “Brooklyn has nursed me,” Boymelgreen said. “I always knew I was committed to Brooklyn.” Click through to the jump to see another photo of the Windsor Terrace development.

Update: A spokeswoman for Boymelgreen contacted us to let us know the 10-unit condo building is actually at the corner of Fulton Street and Washington, not Lafayette and Washington.
