When Drive Change‘s Snowday food truck pulls up in Dumbo starting the first week of March, it won’t just be serving pulled pork sliders and maple-themed treats. It will also be offering training and employment to formerly incarcerated youths.

After spending three years teaching at Rikers Island’s East River Academy, Drive Change founder Jordyn Lexton realized she could help Rikers alums who had been imprisoned with felony convictions as teenagers begin their careers. Drive Change’s eight-month mentorship program includes two months paid training, four months employment and a two-month transition with continued employment and a job placement strategy.

The truck debuted at the Navy Yard last month and is based at the Brooklyn Commissary in Greenpoint. It will be open Wednesday through Friday at the Dumbo food truck lot at the corner of Jay and Water streets. GMAP
