We are sad to report that this quaint pair of 19th century stable buildings may soon become a six-unit, three-story apartment building. The owner filed an Alt-1 application in July to convert the building into residential apartments. The application was denied in December but says “pending” on the DOB website.

Click through to the jump to see the rendering of the proposed apartments. It shows four stories, although the application is for three. At least they’re keeping some of the look on the ground floor and not tearing down the building altogether.

This block just missed being part of the recent Stuyvesant Heights Historic District Extension. It is inside the proposed Bedford Stuyvesant North Historic District. We’re afraid developers are starting to move quickly ahead of Landmarks. We’re seeing a lot more development here in the last six months.

Thanks to a Brownstoner reader for the tip and photos.
