House of the Day: 1294 Dean Street

This generously proportioned center hall Crown Heights limestone has a lot of unpainted wood work and other original details. While a couple of bathrooms have been inserted into the extension on two floors, the house looks pretty much intact and in good condition, going by the photos.

That said, the one kitchen pictured could use an update, although it looks serviceable. There are no pictures of the bathrooms. The center hall staircase also makes the top-floor rental awkward, since the renter has to walk through the owner’s apartment.

It was designed by Albert E. White and built in 1893, according to the listing. It’s in the Crown Heights North Historic District.

Now for the bad news: The ask is $1,999,000, definitely on the high side for Crown Heights. Does that seem a stretch for a house that needs updating and polishing? Or does the size and relatively good condition of this house merit the ask?
