Eddie Hibbert’s addition is just about done, and we were amazed to see it. He’s built a Victorian-style townhouse over his garage! Usually the brownstone (or, in this case, what looks like a wood-frame Italianate) comes first and then the early 20th century garage, but not this time.

This building joins a handful of others in Brooklyn that are new but designed in a traditional manner. We can only imagine the interiors: Presumably he’s found a place for lots of nice architectural salvage. The architect is Darrin J. Krumpus of Boro Architects.

  1. it could have been so much nicer. i would have preferred a more contemporary addition. maybe out of salvaged wood or steel plates or aluminum panels, etc. with full windows.
a contemporary design would have nicely contrasted with the warehouse.

  2. I’m not sure how I feel about the addition but I hear the interiors are pretty nice.
I would have liked something more ‘historic” looking although I’m not exactly what that would look like.
Now they should reno the store, so it’s easier to find items instead of ‘treasure hunting’.
