Excavation Starts for Six-Story Building on Bedford in North Williamsburg

There’s some action at a former parking lot on Bedford at North 1st Street in Williamsburg, where excavation recently began for a planned six-story, mixed-use building. The city’s Office of Environmental Remediation removed an underground fuel tank and decontaminated the property at 263 Bedford last year after the owner signed up for the Office of Environmental Remediation’s voluntary cleanup program. In August, the DOB approved new building permits for a six-story building with 14 apartments, zoned for 18,265 square feet of residential space and 3,510 square feet of commercial space. The architect of record is the Chinatown-based Jung Wor Chin. The building will also have an underground garage with eight parking spaces. The current owner purchased the 8,200-square-foot property in 1986 and made it into a parking lot in the mid-90s, DOB records show. GMAP
