93-howard-avenue

Kaffe Koppen, which in Swedish means “coffee cup,” opened last week at 93 Howard Avenue, a stone’s throw from Saratoga Park. The cafe serves sandwiches, smoothies, paninis, wraps, baked goods and, of course, coffee. An espresso machine is on its way, said the owner.

On the walls is a changing exhibit of art work by local artists, and the cafe has also invited local musicians to play. A new mural outside replaces the one that advertised the barbershop Final Kut that used to be in the space. We’ll miss the old mural with its inspired graphics and trompe l’oeil-meets-Rene Magritte picture of the building, but we’re happy to have a new spot to walk to that isn’t on busy Broadway.

DNAinfo was the first to write about the cafe. Anyone checked it out yet? Click through to the jump to see a photo of part of the old mural. GMAP
