Jess Lam and her husband bought their house at 547 St. Marks Avenue in Crown Heights 10 years ago, when Franklin Avenue and Crown Heights were very different places. For a long time, they lived in Williamsburg and rented out the house off Franklin. But three years ago, they moved into their Crown Heights house, renovated it, and built a cafe on the ground floor. Cafe Allegria opened last month. They make their own bagels fresh every day, smoke their own ham, and squeeze their own orange juice. There is outdoor seating on the paved driveway and in the side yard to the left of the house. They serve sandwiches, coffee and bagels all day. The cafe is open from 7 am to 7 pm, Monday to Saturday, and Sundays from 8 am to 4 pm. More pictures after the jump! GMAP

  1. A welcome addition to the neighborhood, and I’ve heard nothing but great things about them. I’ve had the bagels and they’re quite good. Friends who’ve been say the owners are super nice, with one friend spending 2hrs playing croquet in the backyard with the owner. Great that they allow use of their yard, which is big, and fun for the kids to play in. I hope they have great success. Just wish they were open on Sunday.
