One of the subcontractors chosen to build the hotel and condo development inside Brooklyn Bridge Park does not have workers comp and disability coverage and its Building Department license has expired, according to records, The New York Daily News reported. Unions plan to protest the choice of Empire Pile and Foundations at a meeting of the Brooklyn Bridge Park board Wednesday. The complex, pictured above, which is being developed by Toll Brothers and Starwood Capital Group, will help pay for the ongoing maintenance of the park, but has been controversial because it allows private development on public land. “The Buildings Department requires an any contractor performing excavation work to have an active general contractor license, but Empire’s license expired in 2009, records reveal,” said the Daily News.
