A seven-story, 7,733-square-foot hotel is planned for 1024 Flatbush Avenue between Tilden Avenue and Duryea Place, across from Loew’s King Theater, revealed a post on Ditmas Park Corner. The empty storefronts that are there now will be demolished within the next 30 days and construction will take a year and a half to two years. According to the Loew’s Facebook page, the hotel will be “Marriot branded.” The Facebook page has tons of great information concerning the restoration of the historic theater, as well as the surrounding development on Flatbush Avenue. The Loew’s folks report that at the building next to the new hotel, the landlord will renovate for a health club upstairs and “four modern retail units” on the lower level. As for the theater restoration: “Right now the lobby looks like a giant rector set of scaffolding while planks of plywood protect the pink and white marble floors.” The theater has been closed since the 1970s and is expected to reopen in 2015.
