Creator of Brooklyn Night Bazaar Eyes Gowanus

The creator and organizer of the Brooklyn Night Bazaar, a nighttime flea market previously set up in Williamsburg and at the Dekalb Market, is looking toward the shores of the Gowanus to set up another outpost. Pardon Me For Asking reports that the business has a date with Community Board Six for an outdoor seasonal liquor license at 226-242 Huntington Street, just east of Smith Street. It’s unclear if the bazaar will host music, food or craft vendors, although it’s going to be a big setup: At least 600 patrons are expected nightly, according to the applicant. PMFA hears a rumor that that number could be closer to 4,000 or 4,500. If the liquor license is approved, the market will open in May and last through the summer. Community Board Six will hear the applicant on April 22 at 6:30 pm at the Old First Reformed Church. Back in 2011, Community Board One voted against a similar outdoor seasonal market by the Brooklyn Night Bazaar in Greenpoint, so we’ll see how this goes over in Carroll Gardens.
