A couple of bike share stations were installed in Clinton Hill over the weekend. One is at Fulton and Grand, and the other at Lafayette and Classon. The program is late, but we weren’t expecting any actual stations until May, so this is a pleasant surprise. Anyone else see any other bike share racks in Brooklyn? Any one tried it out yet? Click through to see a shot of the racks as well as a close-up of the credit card device itself.

  1. No comments about the ridiculousness of the “Citibank” logos? I mean, it’s not as bad as the initial drawings but why do we need insulting corporate signage from a taxpayer financed and bailed out “bank”? Guess what? The people pulling in big bonuses from taxpayer financed Citibank will not be using these bikes. And, I can’t wait to see how long it takes for the stations outside housing projects to get totally trashed…

  2. i don’t mean to sound negative about this because it is a great thing, but i agree with bburgscotican, the picture above on fulton will block half of the sidewalk! pedestrians will have to walk on the grates.

i have to wonder how many of these idiot bike renters will either ride on the sidewalk or cause major problems on the streets.

  3. Phase two will add Upper Manhattan, West Queens and the West Bronx. Phase 3, much of the East Bronx, East Queens near subway lines and a large remainder of South Brooklyn. These are pretty much guaranteed, further expansions are likely too.

  4. “But don’t worry about that anyway. The revised plan only puts the bikes in the wealthiest sections of Manhattan and south Brooklyn, so you don’t have to worry about the poor people in Bed-Stuy, Bushwick and East Williamsburg trying to steal all your bikes.”

did you even look at the map of the stations? most are in downtown brooklyn, clinton hill and bed-stuy. very few in the “wealthiest sections”
