A downtown restaurateur behind many hip Manhattan establishments is now trying to open a hip hotel in Gowanus, according to Capital New York. The man in question, Matt Abramcyk, is one of three investors planning a $13 million new building at 645 Union Street, between Third and Fourth avenues. It’ll be a 82-room, four-story hotel called the Gowanus Inn and Yard. The projected opening date, according to a project memorandum, is early 2015. Presumably Whole Foods will be open by then too. Capital New York didn’t get comments from the investors as the project memo is still a working document. They have put up a Facebook page, however, with “inspiration” photos. Previously, 645 Union was a parking lot. It sold last October for $2,533,400, according to public records.
