Council Member Brad Lander released his 2012 Annual Report to the Community this week and it’s full of news about schools, participatory budgeting and the safe street initiatives that took place in the last year. There are also some good updates on under-construction parks around Brooklyn and what’s to come this year. According to Council Member Lander, the Parks Department is now implementing repairs to pedestrian paths near Park Circle and Long Meadow in Prospect Park to prevent flooding. This project was funded, in part, by participatory budgeting. Renovations at the Prospect Park Ballfields (pictured) are expected to commence after the summer season. (You can read about the $6 million reno project here.) Kensington’s Dome Playground will be renovated soon and the Parks Department will hold a community meeting to discuss the coming changes. Borough Park’s Brizzi Playground will receive improvements this spring. And finally, the renovation of Carroll Garden’s DiMattina Dog Run (in the works since forever) should be completed later this year. The website Carroll Gardens DOG reported in December that “the final plans are out for bid, and construction will begin next summer with completion 3-4 months later.”
