For those of you looking for something a little different this Valentine’s Day, you might want to try a tour of the Newtown Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant in Greenpoint. This is the second year that the city’s Department of Environmental Protection has offered the tours–last year 220 people showed up. The lucky lovers will be shown around by the plant’s superintendent who will provide an overview of the water treatment process and a stop in the observation deck 120 feet up atop one of the digester eggs with apparently stunning views of the East River and Manhattan. The facility has won two design awards from The New York City Art Commission.

Two scheduled tours have been booked but another has been added at 11 am on Thursday. Space is limited. Find out more information and how to RSVP via email here. Tours begin at the Visitors Center which is located at 329 Greenpoint Avenue in Greenpoint.
