Brooklyn’s Office Space Crunch

This weekend The New York Times looked into the lack of office space in Williamsburg and Greenpoint — where Kickstarter is building its new headquarters. Residential development has become so lucrative in Williamsburg that few developers are interested in creating office space even though plenty of startups want to stay in the neighborhood. Assemblyman Joseph R. Lentol of Brooklyn is seeking support for a bill that would create incentives for mixed-use development in the area. The issue is not limited to that corner of north Brooklyn. Businesses located in the Tech Triangle–Dumbo, Downtown Brooklyn and the Navy Yard–are concerned that they will soon run out of room to grow according to a story in the Commercial Observer. Architects and business leaders are considering expanding into parts of downtown along Flushing Avenue, the Fulton Mall and the area around the Barclays Center. What do you think, is Brooklyn short on office space?
