A tipster living in the neighborhood was notified that construction was gearing up at 224 Greene Avenue, between Classon and Grand. We noted in September that “local favorite Eddie Hibbert has filed plans to build another two stories on top of the half of the warehouse building that he owns. The addition will consist of two floor-through, loft-like apartments. According to the DOB filing, the move will expand the square footage from under 1,200 now to over 3,000.” Besides the scaffolding going up, construction has not yet started. GMAP

  1. “We hope they improve on the look of the buildiing” — what a thing to say about neighborhood fixture and great samaritan Eddie Hibbert’s place — the man who has given us all the doors, mantels, and spindles we need for our homes. Lest you want to be characterized as the thoughtless gentrification-rag you sometimes are, a little research (like, 30 seconds) could help you have a more sympathetic tone to developments like this. Especially when they’re within a block or two of Jonathan’s house.

Congratulations Eddie, on winning on your own terms. You deserve every dollar that comes in from this decision.
