Fridays at 11, The Upstater website brings you a selection of houses for sale or rent within three hours north, and a little bit east or west, of New York City.

This week, we have a couple of Miss Havisham-style houses that caught our eye recently. And we’re thinking that, what with the Biblical weather, it might be nice to pick up a fixer-upper and weatherproof it properly.

22 South Beacon Avenue, Beacon

We love the looks of this Victorian in Beacon — the last stop on the Metro-North, heavy with Brooklyn emigres. It’s on a decently sized lot for the city, .37 acres, and could be lovely.

The wraparound porch, the barn, the fireplaces, the views… all good stuff to work with. One of our readers went to see it and affirmed it needs a major overhaul, at least $150,000 of work. The taxes are around $8,500, in part because this four-bedroom, two-bath has over 4,000 square feet.

17 Schoolhouse Road, Staatsburg, NY

This is an old schoolhouse in Staatsburg, a hamlet about equidistant between Rhinebeck and Poughkeepsie, close to the Taconic Parkway.

We’re partial to the wood beams, the fireplaces and French doors. It has four bedrooms, two baths and a laundry room, and it sits on three acres.
