Considering the gas shortage and recent lack of public transportation, we have to commend the sanitation department for a job well done. While pickups have not been happening exactly as scheduled, they have been happening. A sweep through eastern and southern Brooklyn did reveal some hurricane-related garbage out on the streets waiting for pickup, but it looked like sanitation had already been through at least once already, if not several times. The Brooklyn Heights Blog noted yesterday that recyclables will not be picked up today, so do not leave them on the street. Bushwick Daily heard from the Department of Sanitation that recycling pickup is suspended in the city until further notice, and notes that the recycling is piling up fast on Bushwick streets.
