Council Map Reflects Moves to Park Slope, Burg

The latest proposed redistricting plan for the Brooklyn City Council reflects increased populations in Park Slope and Williamsburg, according to the Brooklyn Daily Eagle. The process, with public input, has been ongoing since September; the latest map was given the thumbs-up by the council’s redistricting commission last week. The City Council will vote on the revised plan today. To even up the number of people voting in each district, under the proposal, parts of Park Slope will switch from the 33rd district represented by Councilman Steve Levin to the 39th, represented by Brad Lander. This will help make up for population increases in both Park Slope and Williamsburg. Meanwhile, the 43rd district, which includes parts of Bay Ridge and Dyker Heights, will expand to include a section of Bath Beach, formerly represented by Staten Island Councilman James Oddo.

  • It looks like the northern border of the district that covers PLG has been moved back to Empire Blvd. from the northern side of Lincoln Road, as originally proposed. In the long run keeping our neighborhood together is a good thing; in the short run the original proposed re-districting would have let some residents of the northern end of PLG escape from the present incompetent Council member’s district. You win some and you loose some.

    • That council member you referred to was accused of not living in the district when he first ran. Maybe, that is why he shows so little interest in the district he represents.

      • The good doctor had actually rented an apartment before the primary, but hadn’t yet moved in. He was dumb enough to publicly admit that on the radio the day before the primary, which he won, necessitating a second one, at great wasted expense. It’s been downhill since then. The man is an embarrassment to our neighborhood but, sadly, it’s really hard to defeat an incumbent.

  • It shifts the border of Clinton Hill to the east of Classon 1 block in some areas.

  • I am soooo disappointed! Oh well, back to working to get rid of our current idiot Councilperson.
