What we are reading this week about decorating and renovating old houses:
It is hard to pick just one favorite room in this landmarks-protected London townhouse belonging to an artist and a fashion editor. One of the three sitting rooms, the horn-tile-lined shower room with teak floor (!!!), or the master bath with hand-painted silk shade and black fireplace? It’s all very glam, yet eclectic. The story makes it sound as if conforming to historic requirements was a burden, yet we don’t think the furnishings would look as interesting in a white modernist box. Those with black mantles will find several schemes to study.

We can imagine sprawling out on those soft leather chairs in this refreshing and comfortable-looking modern vacation home in Spain. Lots of low shelves and tables provide space for drinks and books, and the patterns and colors are cheerful. The kitchen tile brightens our day too.

This classic Fort Greene apartment has been simply furnished with mostly midcentury modern furniture and some unexpected touches, including transparent glass and plastic objects and a large photograph over the mantle. We admire the look and functionality of the mirror, shelf and hooks in the entry.
