A large group of volunteers turned out to help clean up areas around Brooklyn Bridge Park today. This morning, they swept the edges of the north end of the park, emptied storm drains on Main Street, and helped at flooded Galapagos Art Space and Powerhouse Books. Cleanup of Pier 6 started at 2 pm today and will go until 5 pm. Speaking of volunteers, the Park Slope Armory at 15th Street and 8th Avenue is looking for overnight volunteers to help displaced people from lower Brooklyn and parts of Queens. Each shift is four hours. The evacuation center at Brooklyn Technical High School also urgently needs volunteers to help out with more than 500 seniors and people with disabilities on their way in. Overnight volunteers from 11 pm to 8 am are especially needed. Just drop by 29 Fort Greene Place at the South Elliott/Dekalb entrance.
