What we are reading this week about decorating and renovating old houses:

Regular Brownstoner readers will recognize this house. The news here is that Jessica and Doug Warren are now renting out rooms in their Clinton Hill mansion through AirBnB. For those who are not familiar, the Warrens completely overhauled the building, keeping intact its historic bits, and Jessica (of JP Warren Interiors) has decorated with a mix of new and thrifted modernist pieces. That’s Marcel Wanders’ Knotted Chair in the corner of the living room. Remodelista also has a lot of posts this week about 1920s homes in L.A.

When Rebecca Proctor and Andrew Wightman moved from London to a 780-square-foot, 18th-century cottage in rural Bude, Cornwall, they embraced the simple life, and the cottage decoration reflects that. Most of the renovation work, such as moving walls, they did themselves. We like the wall papered in newsprint at the top of the stairs.

Nadja Fidelia, formerly a managing director at Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc., bought this Harlem brownstone to get away from downtown after 9/11. She remodelled the kitchen, painted the living room tomato red, and modeled one of the baths after the ones in Claridge’s Hotel in London.

Who doesn’t love a Parisian flat? Just start with fabulous chevron floors and over-the-top plaster details. Then casually throw around some white paint, sheets and some pops of color, and voila!
