More Details on Just-Opened Greenpoint Homeless Shelter

by

Yesterday DNAinfo published a full report on the homeless shelter now open at 400 McGuinness Avenue in Greenpoint. NY Shitty first reported the shelter’s early opening (which took residents and local pols by surprise) last week. According to DNAinfo, the Bowery Residents’ Committee facility holds 200 beds and houses men who need short-term shelter before relocating elsewhere. The shelter reserves 20 of the beds for homeless Greenpoint residents. A meeting held Tuesday night at the shelter was not open to the public, further frustrating residents who have felt in the dark about the on-and-off plans for a shelter here. The residents now living in the shelter, however, held it up as a clean, high-quality residency in a good neighborhood.
