A gut renovation is underway at 1002 Bushwick Avenue, an imposing red brick building originally built for lumber and millwork magnate Louis Bossert in 1887. Yes, this is the same Bossert who built the Bossert Hotel in Brooklyn Heights that will soon reopen as a hotel after serving as a Jehovah’s Witnesses property for many years. In March of this year, the Bushwick Avenue house was purchased for $1.3 million by FT Realty Corp of Williamsburg (under the name 1002 Bushwick USA LLC) from Chances for Children International. The new owner filed a permit to convert the building to residential from its existing use as a nursery school. Connecting it and an old stable in the rear is another one-story structure the owner intends to increase in height. Altogether the property comprises 8,810 square feet and extends fairly far down the block in the rear. The architect is ND Architecture & Design P.C.
