The parents at P.S. 372, the Children’s School on Carroll Street in Park Slope, are pushing for a school expansion. Last year the proposal to create a 6-8 curriculum at the school was approved, but the Department of Education could not find a site so it never went through. This year, parents want to avoid that fate and have launched a campaign and petition to make the community aware of the issue. A parent explains some of the specifics of the expansion: “The Children’s School, which is actually for all of District 15, currently consists of 2 sites. There is an inclusionary elementary school in Gowanus and an ASD site in Fort Green. In a perfect world, those two sites as well as the middle school would eventually be in one building. At the moment, our goal is to get a site so that the middle school can open in Fall 2013. We need to just get the ball rolling.” This Daily News article says that the Department of Education will consider a new space for the school as part of the 2013-2014 planning cycle.
