Today’s the grand opening of the Brooklyn Bridge Park Pop Up Pool at Pier Two! The pool will operate daily from 10am til 6pm until Labor Day, although the “beach” area and concession stand will stay open later. This morning a lucky few got to take the first jump, after some words from BBP President Regina Myer and local politicians. State Senator Daniel Squadron told the crowd: “This pool is proof that we can expand this universal amenity of the park at an affordable price.” (Senator Squadron recently secured $400,000 in state funding for the construction of the $700,000 pool.) The pool, sand beach, picnic tables, concessions, showers, and restrooms were built up and ready to go in one years time. The pool itself is 3.5 feet-deep, 30′ by 50′, and can only fit 60 people at any one time. (Here’s the full schedule for swim hours.) It will remain open for at least five seasons.
