Every Friday at 11:00, the Upstater website brings you a selection of properties for rent and sale within three hours north (and a little bit east and/or west) of New York City. This week, two houses: one with mountain views, in the country, and another — in town — with river views.

This week, Upstater has been focusing on Ellenville, an Ulster County town with less curb appeal than some of its tonier neighbors closer to the Hudson (there are fewer stone houses and practitioners of the “healing arts”) but more affordable real estate.

More on the jump…

This converted barn has great views of the Catskills from an enormous deck, and, as far as we can tell, no views of neighbors. Built in 1880, it has three beds, two baths, 2,417 square feet and almost nine acres of land. We’re fans of the kitchen. Taxes estimated at around $7,580 a year.
2 Anderson Road, Ellenville. $345,000. GMAP.

On the other end of the spectrum is this very affordable fella in Newburgh, a city with many faults, as we know, but with some serious attributes as well: a beautiful, affordable housing stock and Hudson River views.

Clearly, this place has the views, both of the river and of the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge, meaning it’s a short jaunt to DIA:Beacon and other cultural attractions across the river. The views are courtesy of the “wall of windows,” one of the better renovations in the place.

Looks like it still needs some love, but the price is right: nearly half of what the owners paid for it in 2006.
368 N. Montgomery St, Newburgh. $175,000. GMAP.
