Every Friday at 11:00, the Upstater website brings you a selection of properties for rent and sale within three hours north (and a little bit east and/or west) of New York City. This week: upstate New York houses for sale with pools.

We chose to focus on the Stone Ridge area because a) it’s pretty, b) it’s convenient (close to the Thruway), c) it’s popular, and d) some really great houses popped up in our search. The two stone houses for sale we’ve driven by numerous times, and they’re lovely from the outside.

This is a home we’ve had our eye on for a while: an 18th century stone house in the tiniest little hamlet (just a church and a museum) called Kripplebush, in the town of Stone Ridge — a lovely, very rural location that recalls Vermont. It was $928,000 when we wrote about it last July, and it’s had a major reduction: down to $725,000.

It sits on almost five acres, with thee beds and two baths, a pond, original wood ceiling beams. We’re disappointed about the lack of kitchen pics, and the bathroom feels a little outdated to us, but there’s still a tremendous amount to recommend it.

Interestingly, there’s another Kripplebush 18th century stone house for sale, with pool, just across the way. This one has beautifully modernized interiors, including a delectable kitchen and bath.

The original wide-plank floors are all there, and it has lovely light. Also includes a barn, garden, and access to a stream. It’s right up against the road, but there’s not much traffic on Kripplebush Road.

This one has a whopping 31 acres, three beds, two baths.

Close to the Ashokan Reservoir is this modern take on a Dutch Colonial. We think they missed an opportunity with the kitchen and bath, but we like its looks, the windows and the way it’s nestled in nature. Looks like a nice place to be.

It has three beds, two baths, 2.46 acres, 3,460 square feet. Some other nice features: bamboo floors, radiant heat flooring, tennis court and a guest house. We’re guessing there’s some serious maintenance money involved in upkeep for both the pool and the tennis court.
